NFA celebrates achievement of local foster carer

Wednesday 30 March 2016

The National Fostering Agency recently hosted its annual Presentation of Long Service Awards, at which a local foster carer was recognised.

Maria Manuela, from Forest Gate, was given an award for her 15 years of service with NFA, along with chocolates and a bottle of champagne. The event was held at the Kia Oval and was attended by around 300 NFA foster carers, social workers and support staff.

Maria said: “I have fostered 13 children so far in my fostering career. Two of these have graduated from university and two are still studying at university. Most of my former foster children are now married with families of their own – in fact, they recently they got together with my birth children to organise my birthday party.”

Iain Anderson, CEO of the National Fostering Agency, said “The long service awards are a great way to recognise the hard work and commitment our carers demonstrate to the children in their care. Maria has made a difference to many children and young people at a time when they needed it most, and we were pleased to be able to celebrate her dedication with this award.”
