Transferring as a foster carer to National Fostering Group

Tuesday 05 August 2025

Thinking about transferring as a foster carer to National Fostering Group? We recently caught up with two of our lovely, approved carers who joined NFA London North, one from a local authority and one from another Fostering agency. They shared their experiences of the transfer process, what made them choose us, and what the journey has been like so far. If you are considering a change or want to learn more about transferring, their stories might just inspire you.

Hina – My fostering journey started in 2011, and I have always fostered as a single carer, something I am extremely passionate about. I fostered for a London Local Authority, which I really loved and enjoyed over the years, but one of my foster carer friends from another local Authority had moved to National Fostering Group in London, and told me about her wonderful journey with them, and I was really interested to learn more! Along came the National Fostering Group recruitment team just for a friendly chat, and trust me when I say a friendly chat, I felt like I knew the team forever. Sweet, calm and a lovely approach to answering my questions and explaining the transferring process, without pressure or obligation. I was invited to a carer brunch, where I was able to chat to other carers and the rest of the team, which I found encouraging. I decided to transfer and was moved seamlessly and professionally into my transferring assessment. Then came along the assessor, who just happened to be an ex-social worker from Hounslow whom I worked alongside. She did my assessment quite quickly and smoothly, and as I was caring for a child at the time, the team worked collaboratively with all professionals to ensure the transition was managed thoughtfully, ensuring stability for the child.

Since being with National Fostering Group nearly a year on I know I made the right decision to transfer and to top it up I get on very well with my Social worker. I feel the National Fostering Group feels like a family, and have found the support and commitment from the team extremely positive, as well as having many opportunities to meet other carers and attend lots of lovely events with the child i am caring for, which has made us feel included and valued. My experience has been so heartening that I have gone on to recommend National Fostering Group to other potential foster carers with pride.

Mags and Colin – We have been fostering as a couple for the past three years, during which we have gained valuable experience and insights into the fostering process and the support systems available through working with Independent Fostering Agencies. Our fostering journey began with an agency based in East London, and while this agency provided a starting point for our experience, we found that the distance posed logistical challenges, and as a result, we made the decision to transition to an agency located closer to our home. National Fostering Group was recommended to us by another foster carer, and upon contacting them, we were impressed by how prompt and responsive they were. Their recruitment team arranged a home visit and provided us with detailed and helpful information. Their professionalism and approachable manner gave us confidence in our decision to join the agency.

At the time of this transition, we were already caring for a 6-year-old child. The entire process of transferring to National Fostering Group was seamless and took less than six months. Throughout the transition, the agency was highly considerate of the child in our care and worked collaboratively with us to ensure their well-being was prioritised. Since joining National Fostering Group, our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The agency has proven to be helpful and approachable at every stage. We have also enjoyed participating in numerous social events organised by the agency, which have helped build a sense of community and support among carers and staff. Our three-year journey in fostering has been rewarding, and our partnership with National Fostering Group has enhanced our experience significantly. The agency’s support, commitment to carers, and child-centred approach have been instrumental in our ongoing success and satisfaction as foster carers.
