Find out if you could be a foster carer
In a few simple questions, you’ll know if you’re suitable to apply to become a foster carer.
It’s 7am at the start of the working week and the alarm has just gone off. How do you feel? A little bit ‘meh’? Worse?
Sadly, you’re not alone.
More than a quarter of UK adults – 27% in actual fact – would like to change careers to something more worthwhile, with 39% of us admitting our work makes no meaningful difference to society.
That’s why National Fostering Group is launching its new campaign – More than a Job. Because the fact is, there IS something more meaningful you could do. Something that could bring you fulfilment (and challenge). And something could transform a child’s life.
There has never been a greater need for foster carers than there is right now. And you could become one of them… even if you’ve never previously considered fostering.
We believe there are so many people out there with the skills to foster but who’ve never even thought about fostering as a career, that we’ve created a quiz… and we’d love you to take it. The results might surprise you.
Because you don’t need to be superhuman to foster, you don’t need specialist skills or qualifications. What you need is empathy, patience and a genuine desire to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people. Research shows that many of us already have these qualities and others besides. More than half of us (52%) say we’re compassionate and 54% believe we’re skilled problem-solvers…. the very things that make a great foster carer.
We’re thrilled to have Ashley John-Baptiste – broadcaster, TV presenter, author and inspirational speaker – spearheading our campaign. Raised within a fostering family himself, Ashley is a passionate advocate for the amazing role foster carers play in the lives of young people.
He explains:
“Growing up in care, I saw just how life-changing a foster carer can be. Mine gave me safety, belief, and the confidence to build a future. They weren’t superheroes – they just had compassion, patience, and the will to show up. If you’ve got those qualities, you could be the difference in a child’s life.”
If you’re dissatisfied in your career, looking for more meaning in your life, or seeking to make a change, why not consider fostering?
We are the UK’s largest independent fostering agency with the skills and resources to support you throughout your fostering journey, including a comprehensive training package.
