Helen

Family Assessment Support Worker

I hold a level 3 NVQ in Childcare & Education and a level 3 in Play-work. I also completed my youth work training, portage, and SENCO training. I have 25 years’ experience working with families and young people from being a child of parents who fostered for 23 years, to being a respite foster carer myself, supporting mother and baby placements. My involvement with a charity, supporting families who have children with special needs, working in nurseries and youth centres led me to becoming self-employed, running pre-school physical fitness classes and children’s discos, plus owning a toy shop all whilst my 5 children were young.

I love my role at Arun Hope, working with families and supporting them in developing and achieving their own personal goals in small steps (“Rome wasn’t built in a day”). I find it very rewarding to support families and seeing them develop and improve their skills, sharing with them experiences that hopefully improve their lives so they can remain together. I really enjoy working with a multi discipline team with such a wide field of expertise.

In my spare time, I enjoy swimming and spending time with my family and friends. I like going on adventures and making memories which includes spending downtime in our caravan.
