The National Fostering Group partner with Acorn Digital Learning

The National Fostering Group have partnered with Acorn Digital Learning (ADL) to provide 8 weeks free access to their specialist online school to provide an education bridge into care, and between care placements to help ensure no child gets left behind.

ADL caters for most children and young people aged between 9 and 16, who are currently in care, and those with additional learning requirements, so long as they can fluently communicate in English and have access to a Laptop/PC and a stable broadband connection.

We recognise that many children and young people in care have experienced traumatic events throughout their lives and, as such, need educational professionals who understand their emotional needs while also maintaining a focus on their educational development.

Children and young people in care and those with barriers to learning can find a physical school environment initially too overwhelming; ADL supports them to reintegrate back into school, or post 16 provision.

The ADL curriculum focuses on core subjects supplemented by PSHE, Independent Living/Personal Finance and Work & Life Skills, and is designed to work alongside mainstream or specialist provision to help children and young people in the following ways:

  • Learning pathways that are age/ability appropriate
  • Regular assessments, goals and progress reports
  • Digitally captured progress providing students with continued access to learning whilst creating a body of work to support reintegration into a school environment
  • Targeted top up courses outside of school time to support children and young people who have fallen behind through missing education

NB: 8 weeks free access to ADL is currently available at our following foster agencies; Brighter Futures Foster Care, Children First Foster Agency, Heath Farm Fostering, National Fostering Agency London and South East, National Fostering Agency North, Next Step Fostering and Reach Out Care.
