Fostering Solutions carer Helen Briggs from Hampshire has won the Foster Talk award for her exceptional commitment to fostering children with disabilities.
Helen attended the FosterTalk Foster Carer Awards on Wednesday 28th October where she received the award along with ten other winners from across the UK. The award was presented by Lemn Sissay MBE, an acclaimed poet who has experience time in care and comedian Rhona Cameron.
Helen was nominated by her supervising social worker for her outstanding care to children with disabilities. Helen currently cares for three children all under the age of nine. The children all have disabilities and learning difficulties including her 18 month old foster son who suffers from Townes-Brock Syndrome.
Carla Grant, supervision social worker, said: “Helen and her husband have worked incredibly hard to give this child every single opportunity for learning, development and fun. Helen has an attuned approach which has created a strong and loving bond between herself and the child and has stimulated his development. He has developed trust in this relationship and is relaxed in her presence. Helen’s attitude is one of self-sacrifice to ensure that this little boy receives every opportunity possible for a normal life.”
Helen said: “It is a privilege to win this award, but more so to be able to care for these children as they bring so much fun and laughter into my life.”
