NFA celebrates achievement of two local foster carers in London

Wednesday 30 March 2016

The National Fostering Agency recently hosted its annual Presentation of Long Service Awards, at which two local foster carers were recognised.

Vicky King and Len Green, from Shirley, were given an award for their 15 years of service with NFA, along with chocolates and a bottle of champagne. The event was held at the Kia Oval and was attended by around 300 NFA foster carers, social workers and support staff.

Vicky and Len said: “We started fostering because we wanted to help some of the children and young people who are taken into care. Our first foster placements were sisters aged 9 and 13 years old, who both stayed until they reached 18. The oldest is now a mother of one and a nurse specialist, and her sister is a mum with three children. Two of the children who have been in our care are also now in their first year at university, and it gives us immense satisfaction knowing what we have achieved with these two young men.”

Iain Anderson, CEO of the National Fostering Agency, said: “The long service awards are a great way to recognise the hard work and commitment our carers demonstrate to the children in their care. Vicky and Len have made a difference to many children and young people at a time when they needed it most, and we were pleased to be able to celebrate their dedication with this award.”
