A good deal of time has now passed since the Staying Put legislation came into effect.
Within the agency, we have recently reviewed our agency arrangements for enabling young people to remain with their foster carer after age 18 under our
agency Staying Put arrangements. We now have a number of young people placed with their carers on a Staying Put basis.
One of the key lessons learnt from this review of Staying Put is the need for the work on agreeing to a Staying Put placement to begin early, ideally
at least 1 full year before the young person reaches age 18. If you have a young person in placement age 16+ and are considering providing
a Staying Put placement, please be sure to let our social worker know as soon as possible.
