In a recent radio interview with Leighton Jones on Swansea Sound, Trish Jarrett and Joe Lloyd-Jones from NFA Cymru stress the need for foster carers in the south Wales area.
NFA Cymru strives to find the best possible homes for foster children. However, the shortage of foster carers means that they are struggling to achieve this.
During the interview they discuss the importance of finding fosters carers who are willing to look after large sibling groups in the south Wales area to allow siblings to remain together during fostering placements.
The National Fostering Agency are looking for foster carers who are able to provide homes to children with emotional and behavioural difficulties in order to provide them with greater opportunities and a better chance to succeed in life.
They describe the types of foster placements available to foster carers, but one placement NFA Cymru is keen to promote is child and parent placements. These are designed for people who can’t look after their own children, in their own home. The aim is to help assist them, change their behaviour, so that the child can move on independently, into the community and be successful.
The National Fostering Agency provides foster carers with support from their dedicated Supervising Social Workers who are based in South Wales who operate 24/7. A foster carer will receive a generous allowance to cover the cost of care as well as remuneration in recognition for their time, skills and experience.
