NFA East offers therapeutic support to foster carers

Thursday 24 March 2016

The east region of NFA is offering therapeutic support which is set to help foster parents and children alike. The scheme aims to improve the outcomes of looked after children, meanwhile assisting the work of foster carers.

The therapeutic sessions come as a result of NFA recognising that professionals who work with or support children and young people with emotional difficulties need additional help and guidance.

Dr Kate Sillifant, a highly regarded Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, is working with foster carers who look after many of East Anglia’s most vulnerable children.

Speaking of the work she has been undertaking with the NFA, Dr Sillifant said,

‘Families, children, young people and professionals often request counseling as a solution to difficulties they are experiencing. This means different things to different people who may have a specific therapeutic approach in mind.’

The therapeutic sessions normally last for 90 minutes and have had positive results for everyone involved. NFA East in conjunction with Dr Sillifant is providing this support and ultimately providing better outcomes for the children in their care.

If you feel you could become a foster carer with the NFA please call the NFA team on 01502 588 349. We would love to hear from you.
