The National Fostering Agency believe that every child deserves to reach their full potential and to have the opportunity to pursue their passion, no matter what their passion may be. One way NFA help children to do this is by creating as many new, exciting and inspiring opportunities for them to get involved with.
Throughout January and February NFA London have worked in collaboration with Britain’s Got Talent finalists Unity Dance Company UK. Together we are creating a dance video that will help raise awareness of the need for new foster carers.
Our looked-after children from East London have been rehearsing hard every Sunday and training with professional dancers to prepare for their live performance at the North London Children’s Achievement Awards which took place on February 14th. The children’s performance on the 14th was incredible and it was fantastic to see their confidence grow right in front of our eyes.
The performance caught the attention of The Newham Recorder, an East London Newspaper, who published an article all about our project. Our young people really enjoyed seeing their names and photo in the press!
The young people and crew are now practising hard ready to film the final dance video on Sunday 25th February. Not only has the project encouraged our young people to express their individuality and showcase their talent, it has also supported them to overcome some challenges that they were facing. Malik, 16, stated; “At the start of the project I had heavy depression which meant I was low even when I was smiling and it was a challenge to overcome, but with the help of dance and being able to express myself in that way I’ve been able to vent out my emotions in the routines making them sharp and on point.”
Both NFA staff and carers are incredibly proud of the young people involved in this project, their dedication and commitment have made it a success. Jimmy, NFA foster carer, stated “This project has motivated our young person in a way nothing else has been able to do. The NFA staff found a way to click and engage with a very troubled teenager, thank you!”
Our young people are truly inspirational and we can not wait to showcase their talent with our video, going live in March – keep an eye on our Facebook page to watch the performance!
We even made the news! Take a look at this article from the Newham Recorder.
