NFA Cymru hosts children’s fun day

Thursday 24 March 2016

NFA Cymru was delighted to host a children’s fun day and consultation event at Tredegar House in Newport. It was a very special event for the NFA as it was attended by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales Keith Towler.

The event was held at Tredegar house in Newport and opened by Iain Anderson, NFA Group CEO. The day was facillitated by Mike Church, a performance poet and writer who has worked extensively with children, adolescents and adults in various forms of education. The theme of his talk was ‘What makes a good foster carer’.

The day was jam-packed with fun activities for children, including circus skills craft stations, drama workshops, a perfomance by the Wales Street dance champion and smoothie bikes!

The children posted quotes and comments onto a giant picture of a foster carers surrounding what makes a good foster carer. Some of the comments included ‘to find you are lovable’, ‘she loves hugs’, ‘awesome’, ‘loving and caring’ and ‘my carer gives me everything I need in life’.

Keith Towler talked to the children about his role with the children and young people asking him an array of interesting questions. We also had a great Tweet from the commissionner himself after the event ‘Great event today. Lovely quote from a little boy on the qualities a foster carer should have ‘someone to be proud of you” – @childcomwales.

A huge thank you from Trish Jarrett Regional Manager to the Wales team in Cardiff for organising such a spectacular event. We had a total of 30 children who attended and the feedback from children, young people and foster carers was fantastic!
