Shine - a Lifelong Learning Platform for Foster Carers

Whether it’s an e-learning course, virtual classroom or face to face training, as a foster carer with National Fostering Group, you’ll book all your training through Shine.

The power to manage your own training

This award-winning platform provides a personalised training journey where you can proactively manage personal development and keep on top of training compliance.

  • Search and filter 100s of courses by topic, category or time taken
  • Use on your laptop, mobile phone or tablet at any time – 24/7 access
  • Book courses around your childcare requirements
  • Automatically updates your foster carer personal record
  • Add external qualifications in a few easy steps
  • See which courses your supervising social worker recommends
  • Download your training achievements for yourself

Your supervising social worker will help you get to grips with the system and Shine also offers excellent user support.

Your Shine account

Once you’ve started the process of becoming a foster carer, you’ll be given access to your free Shine account and supported by your assessing social worker. We give you access before you’ve been approved so you can complete some of the mandatory training courses.

You’ll continue to use this account after you’ve been approved too, to continue your mandatory training. Once this is completed, you can use it to do as many courses as you like – there’s no limit.

Your Shine dashboard

On the front page on Shine when you log in, you’re given an overview of your account and access to view everything in more detail.

For example, you’ll be able to see a list of the mandatory courses you need to complete. In addition, you can see which courses you’ve done, which are in progress, and any optional courses your supervising social worker feels would benefit you.

Shine user guide

We’ve produced a training course to help you get the most out of Shine, including how to book courses and how to download your training record for yourself.

And we’re always here to help if you don’t feel confident with the technology. Just ask your social worker for more support.

We’ve done quite a bit of training, and it’s all been really detailed. The core training was really useful, and the training about attachment and trauma is really interesting.
