What activities can I share with my foster child to build trust?

An activity that involves a team effort between the two of you helps to build trust between you and your foster child. It also gives them a positive experience and memories that will be cherished for years to come. Some great activities to share with your foster child include:

  • Cooking – shared time in the kitchen can help to teach your foster child a new skill, build their confidence and creativity, helping them to build their trust and form a connection with you.
  • Playing a sport like football or basketball – exercise is scientifically proven to reduce stress, lift mood and help your foster child to feel more optimistic and relaxed, making it a great time to form a bond with each other.
  • Sharing a hobby – such as painting, building model aeroplanes or something more active like hiking.
  • Play games together – such as a board game or knocking a ball about, which can help you get to know each other in a relaxed environment, without putting too much pressure on forcing a conversation.
