Find out if you could be a foster carer
In a few simple questions, you’ll know if you’re suitable to apply to become a foster carer.
As one of the UK’s most experienced fostering agencies, we’re committed to excellence. Our Foundations to Foster training, also known as Skills to Foster, will equip you with the essential skills needed to be a foster carer.
When I joined National Fostering Group, the training I received helped me to identify my skills and strengths to build healthy relationships with children and young people in my care. The support groups are a great asset to foster carers to gain extra knowledge or just a friendly chat. All of this combined together becomes a very important part of your family as a foster carer, especially if you are a lone carer.
Foundations to Foster is the first mandatory training course for foster carers, and you’ll complete it while you’re still in the approval process.
The course also provides you with an opportunity to meet other foster carers, who can share their expertise. The course is fun, informative and offers real insight into what lies ahead.
The skills to foster training course consists of seven modules covering everything you need to know to prepare for life as a foster carer and a detailed understanding of what is required:
You’ll complete additional mandatory training for foster carers once you’ve been approved as a carer.
There will also be opportunities in the future to take optional courses, including in more specialised topics, like supporting young people with Autism and Asperger’s or parent and child fostering.
